Why Choose St. Stephen's Episcopal School?

Although the first students walked through the doors of St. Stephen’s Episcopal School in 1978, our mission, purpose, and focus remains steadfast and true. We are here to not only provide a superior education to our students, but to assist in the cultivation of lifelong, thoughtful learners, and healthy, productive community members.

A day in the life of a St. Stephen's student:

Our Location

Our ability to utilize the city has given our students the opportunity to hop on public transportation to explore areas beyond the city center. These local and hands-on field trip experiences provide an authentic bridge between classroom lessons and the greater community as students create connections. Our students can also be seen along Riverfront Park tapping into their creative minds, as the park serves as our equipmentless playground. The footprint of student giving can be seen and felt throughout the Harrisburg community. Our students have cleaned up Riverfront Park during 2Minute Tuesday, volunteered at the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, and collected and made items for Downtown Daily Bread and Radiant Hope. From our free pantry conceived and constructed by our prekindergarten students to the fourth grade Tabs for Lab program which benefits the Susquehanna Service Dog program, our students learn the graceful art of giving back to the community in which they reside.

Our Diversity

St. Stephen's Episcopal School is a true microcosm of the Greater Harrisburg area.  With over 60% students of color, 17 different school districts represented, and a population of vast socioeconomic diversity, our school is a true reflection of the region.

Our Quality

St. Stephen’s Episcopal School is a member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Elementary Schools.  Our teachers are highly qualified and nurture students by providing them the best academic experience possible.  Classes are kept small so that each student receives personal attention from teachers and staff — our average class size is 12.  In addition to the core courses, students participate in Spanish, Art, Gym, Religion, Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and STEM classes.
