Q: WHat time does school begin?

Our day begins at 8:15 am for all classes.  Parents may drop off as early as 7:30 am.  Students will report to an area of the school by grade from 7:30 am – 8:00 am under the supervision of a teacher.  At 8:00 am all students report to their homeroom class.  A teacher is on duty outside of the school from 7:45 am – 8:15 am to help facilitate drop off of students.  Before 7:45 am, guardians must either escort his/her child into the school or wait in the car to ensure the child enters the school safely.

Q: WHat time does the school day end?

Bus students begin their dismissal at 2:55 pm.  Students being picked up by car begin dismissal at 3:10 pm.  Parents should not arrive for car pickup until after 3:10 pm so that the buses are able to get out in time.  Students for car pickup will be called one by one as the parent or authorized person arrives.  Teachers will be present on Cranberry Street to help students into the car.  Any changes in dismissal should be sent in writing to the school office.  Verbal changes in dismissal by students are not accepted.

Q: what time are students fed lunch?

Lunch for Preschool and PreKindergarten begins at 11:30 am.  Kindergarten through 2nd Grade lunch also begins at 11:30 am and ends at 11:55 am.  3rd through 5th grade lunch is from 12:00 pm – 12:20 pm.  Middle school lunch begins at 12:25 pm and ends around 12:45 pm.  


Q: are students required to wear a uniform?

St. Stephen’s does not require a uniform, but guidelines for acceptable dress are outlined in the parent/student handbook which can be found online.


Q: what classes are offered beyond core subjects?

All classes participate in Chapel once a week and specials depending upon their grade level which may include Spanish, Music, Religion, Art, Computer, and Gym.

Q: What are some social opportunities provided for students at the school?

Extra activities funded by the Home and School Association have included movie nights, fundraisers and the scholastic book fair.  Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade also participate in an environmental education trip each year (see information here: Informational Brochure).  Other activities include music programs such as our annual Advent Program, Spring Program and School Play.


Q: Do enrolled students/families need to attend St. Stephen's Episcopal cathedral?

No.  While St. Stephen's Episcopal Cathedral welcomes everyone, school families are not obligated to attend or become members.

Q: Do you have a school Meal program?

Yes.  All students are eligible for free breakfast and hot lunch at no additional cost.  The school is currently partner with the Central PA Food Bank to provide all meals.  Families are more than welcome to send their child(ren) in with a packed lunch as well.

Q: How do your students get to your school?

Bus transportation is available to students beginning in Kindergarten whose home districtis within 10 miles of St. Stephen’s and which provides busing to its own students.  We have families who walk, take public transportation, drive, and even bike to school!

Q: Do you have a before/after school program?

Yes.  The school offers before-school care beginning at 7:30 am at no additional cost.  Additionally, a “pay as you need it” after school program runs until 5:30 pm.

Q: What is your average class size?

12 students.
