My Teaching Philosophy:
Teachers carry a substantial responsibility. Education is not only about academics, but comprises social-emotional needs too. Teaching teaches the whole child.
A teacher’s role:
- Accommodate all learners and set up students for academic success by explicitly teaching the school’s curriculum with varied approaches, resources, strategies and active engagement.
- Use a proactive approach to discipline by providing a structured classroom with clear expectations through modeling and practice and positive teacher language to create a safe, caring community where students feel valued and respected.
- Create partnerships with the home and work together.
- Measure effectiveness of learning through observation and progress monitoring using various assessments.
- Create a classroom alive with literacy, color, creativity, hands-on experiences and fun to foster a love of learning.
- Provide opportunities for social interaction and team work to exercise critical thinking skills and problem-solving strategies.
Teachers touch the future. Students need to be prepared not only academically but socially and emotionally. Students should leave the classroom not only with the knowledge and confidence for the next step of their education, but also prepared with a “tool belt” of strategies for problem solving and critical thinking.
