About Mrs. McCarty

Classroom Philosophy
Students are asked to walk in everyday with a positive attitude, ready and willing to take on the challenges of the day.

Students will be encouraged to explore their natural interests while learning the core curriculum for third grade. They will be given the opportunity to ask questions and participate in class free from ridicule or judgement.

Students will know that being successful takes hard work and risk of failure. We learn most from our mistakes and making them doesn’t equal failure, it just means we need to try again.

Our classroom is part of a community both at St. Stephen’s and in the City of Harrisburg. We will be a part of that community and will take every advantage to make those communities a better place to live, work and have fun.

I will model my actions after behaviors that I want the students to follow. My students will know what I expect of them for each and every activity and will learn to be independent as a result.

I will provide my students with all the tools they need to succeed in both the immediate and long term future. The spark of knowledge in their eyes is what drives me as an educator.

My Classroom in Five Words
comfortable, engaging, curious, adventurous, fun and sometimes bouncy

After a Year in My classroom, Students Will Know
I want every student to leave my class knowing they CAN be successful at anything as long as they work hard and ask for help when they need it!

What message would you give to parents of students in your classroom?
I treat every student as my own. Know that once the students come into my classroom for their third grade year, they become ” my kids”. I will do everything in my power to help them become successful, confident and respectful kiddos!

Outside of the Classroom
I have a wonderful husband, Luke and two active little girls, Addie and Finnley, who are both attending St.Stephen’s this year. I also run the Kickball League of PA and play in an adult co-Ed volleyball league.

Education
I received an undergraduate degree in communications from Shippensburg University and then went to Wilson College to complete the Teacher Intern Program for my K-6 teaching certificate.
